We can have a whirlwind of problems hit all at once. Your car needs repaired, your computer crashes, other financial problems rise up along with family and medical problems and the emotional ups and downs that come with it all; fear can catch anyone by surprise. It will feel as if a tornado hit. It happens all at once and takes you by surprise. You know to do what you can do and take the rest to God but it can overwhelm you. You pray and seek the Lord for answers and may still be confused and full of anxiety. Don’t give up, just when you cannot take it anymore get alone with Him and shove all the worries aside. Peace will sweep over you as you rest in the presence of the Lord. When you seek the Lord in fear, fear of drowning, anxiety may be consuming you. It may take some time in His presence to feel the peace of His presence, but do not give up, fear is not from God, but trust that He will comfort you. God sets you free as you trust in Him. (Romans 8:15) “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received a Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba” Father.”
When life hits all at once, cry out to God and trust Him to answer you. He loves you. (Proverbs 3:5-6) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Fear not. (Isaiah 43:5) “Do not be afraid, for I am with you,” as long as you hold on to the fear your are not trusting God. (Hebrews 11:6) “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”
This has happened to me and as I realized that not only was I praying in fear, but I was still holding on to the problems. I was not casting my cares on the Lord. (Psalm 55:22) “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.” When I finally silenced the voices of worry, I heard from God. When Elijah ran from Jezebel in fear the Lord told him that HIS voice was not in the earthquake, fire or wind it was in a gentle whisper. My peace is restored. Through silent devotion and communion with God he has helped me to silence the cries of worry in my head and trust Him. Clarity came and peace restored when I got silent before the Lord.
The Lord tells us in His Word to take refuge in Him. He does not say to take refuge in the world or ourselves. (Psalm 57:1-2) “Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills His purpose for me.”
When life hit all at once and things are spinning out of control, go somewhere and get alone with God. Just be still before Him. You do not need to say a long prayer; just sit in His presence and let His Holy Spirit fill you with His perfect peace. (Isaiah 26:3) “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You.” God will take care of you it is His promise. (Deuteronomy 30:6) “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." The Lord came to give you eternal life; He came to give you peace and security and an abundant life. (John 10:10) “The thief comes only to steal, and kill and to destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Once you cry out to the Lord, He will calm your spirit and you will find His peace again. (Romans 15:13) “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” The troubles you have will still be there but the turmoil in your spirit will be gone. This is true victory when we can have peace in the middle of the storm. Once your spirit is at rest and the voices of worry are gone, you will be able to hear the Lord clearly directing your steps; telling you which way to go. (Proverbs 20:24) “A man's steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own way? Sometimes He is telling you to just wait on Him, He will work it out and other times He will guide in decisions to make or things to do to bring about the victory He promises in His Word.
The Lord longs to bless us, but our walk with Him is not in blessings alone. A relationship with God cannot be for the blessings alone. We must as children of God as the song says, “Trust and obey.” The two go hand in hand and you cannot have one without the other. If you let the Lord teach in the trials you go through you will grow and so will your faith. You will then be able to encourage others as they go through the same thing you have. (II Corinthians 1:3-7) “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.”
Our life here is preparation for eternity and compared to eternity life here is just a breath. When your focus gets messed up by the issues of life cry out to God. He wants to bless you and not to harm you; that is why He took the punishment that rightfully so should have been ours. (Jeremiah 29:11) “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
He will get you back on path and as you keep Him the main focus, He will take care of everything else.
(Matthew 6:33) “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
