(Proverbs 4:23) “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
In receiving Jesus into our hearts, we became a new creation with new desires. We desire to fear the Lord, revere and worship Him, spend time with Him, read the Word, learn more about Him, and serve Him. But the world, the learned traditions, and experiences of the world are still in our minds and need to be renewed.
(Romans 12:2) “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
You renew your mind by the time you spend in the Word and time you spend in prayer and devotion. Day by day you receive more of Him and more and more of the world is uprooted.
(Matthew 15:13) “He replied, "Every plant that My heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots.”
Jesus is the “bread of life.”
(John 6:35) “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.”
His bread will feed our spirits helping us to grow and learn. When you go without food, your natural bodies get sick and when you go without the Word and personal time with the Lord your spirits get sick as well and you will find yourself weak and unable to stand against the temptations thrown your way. Your time with the Lord is the best and most important time of your day and is something vital to your spiritual growth just as food and water are to your body.
The more time you spend with God, the more you receive from Him, the more you are changed within your mind and heart, and the more of His joy you will feel. When your heart changes, your attitudes and views change, and your actions will automatically follow; God is love and the more of Him you take in the more of His love you take in as well. You can’t help but show that love once it is within you.
So, you want to change? Spend more time with God; take in more of Him that is the answer!
(Luke 6:45) “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
